Mental Health Awareness Week

This week marks Mental Health Awareness Week, an important time to recognise the challenges many people face and to encourage open, supportive conversations about wellbeing.

As part of our commitment to supporting our tenants, we spent time speaking with residents about their experiences and how mental health affects their daily lives. Several tenants kindly shared their personal stories, offering honest insight into the difficulties they have faced and the ways in which Wirral Methodist Housing Association has been able to help.

Their experiences highlight the importance of compassion, understanding, and accessible support. We are grateful to those who felt able to share their journeys, and we remain committed to creating a safe, supportive environment where tenants feel heard and valued.

If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please remember you are not alone. Support is available, and reaching out is a positive first step

Here is a couple of stories from our tenants:-

Tenant one:-

‘Since moving into my new-build flat, I’ve experienced a significant and positive change in my mental health. Before this, I had been struggling for quite some time, and everyday life often felt overwhelming. The stress of my previous living situation made it difficult to feel safe, settled, or able to focus on my wellbeing.

The moment I moved into this new flat, things began to shift. The clean, modern environment, the sense of security, and the peaceful atmosphere have all played a huge part in helping me feel more stable and grounded. Having a space that is warm, quiet, and truly my own has allowed me to rebuild routines, sleep better, and feel more in control of my life.

This home has given me the breathing space I needed to recover and improve my mental health. I feel calmer, more positive, and more able to manage day‑to‑day challenges. Moving here has genuinely made a meaningful difference to my wellbeing, and I’m grateful for the positive impact it has had on my life.’

Tenant two:-

“Last year, I got close to taking my own life. I didn’t feel like anyone was listening to me, and a neighbour was bullying me. I was able to move into one of your sheltered schemes, and it’s given me such a boost. I realised I was isolated and now I have a community that I’ve been welcomed into. I feel much calmer and have started to look forward to different things. Thank you, Wirral Methodist Housing Association, for this flat.”

Tenant three

“For me, a safe home is good for my mental health. When my living space feels secure, I feel calmer, more confident, and better able to cope with everyday challenges”.
