A Visit from Alison McGovern MP

We were honoured today to welcome Alison McGovern MP, the local Member of Parliament for Birkenhead who is also Minister for Local Government and Homelessness, who visited several tenants in their homes on Hamilton Street — the site of our former Wirral Methodist Housing offices.

This thoughtfully designed development, comprising four one bed flats and four two bed flats, has been delivered to an exceptional standard thanks to the expertise and collaboration of: Interiors Direct – developer, JDA – architect, Drees & Sommer – Principal Designer, Sovini – Development Support and Great Places Housing Group – BLOC Lead. With valued support from Homes England, Wirral Borough Council, and our funders Barclays and Warrington BC.

The eight apartments have been allocated to a range of priority applicants and as always with Wirral Methodist HA we give the greatest priority to those who are homeless or leaving care.

Alison McGovern met Adam as part of the visit; Adam had to leave his family home and experienced homelessness and temporary accommodation before moving into his new flat. He shared the difficulties he had experienced and been able to overcome.

It was really important that also in attendance was Kevin Garvey from the National Housing Federation as we demonstrated how we are turning older buildings and vacant sites across Wirral into new homes and helping to address the housing and homelessness crisis that we face.

Paul Carhart, Chief Executive for Wirral Methodist Housing Association said:
“We are proud to showcase the quality of these new homes and the strength of collaboration that made them possible. Today’s visit highlights the importance of investing in safe, affordable housing that supports people and communities to thrive.”
